Laughter

Gah! is my new favourite phrase. It can take different levels of exclamation and can be yelled in nearly every key. So monosyllabic, and yet so informative. A useful response to just about everything.

He asked for a raincheck. He had to leave and wanted to be certain that our company could repeated at some point in the future. He actually asked “could I take a raincheck on… this?” because he didn’t quite know how to contain what we had been doing in one convenient label (what we had been doing involved back massages, hand squeezing, and a high comfort level). A raincheck. Such a practical metaphor for such an abstract thing.

I giggled in response, but I had been giggling (and smiling) for nearly the whole time as it was, which was part of the reason why he didn’t know what to say.

“You… you…” he said definitively while trying to peer into whatever was held beneath my smile. But he could glean nothing. I giggled more.

Laugh, and the world laughs with you. Unless they don’t know why you’re laughing.

“What are you laughing at?”
“Everything.”

I have a smile that makes itself known for inexplicable reasons in situations that not everyone finds immediate humour in. People have a hard time understanding the smile, but what is there to get? Must everything have a concrete reason for existence?

I was laughing because life had been getting exceedingly stranger by the day and Saturday was in no way an exception, but that’s as specific a reason as I can give. I was laughing because it fit the situation.

On a completely different note, I passed my qual. My status as a college senior is official. Go me!

although i claim that being a senior is highly overrated…as i was one for about 6 weeks. junior year in both HS and college was definitely better :)
